New York Marathon

The New York Marathon is the pinnacle of events run by the New Zealand Achilles Foundation.

To date we have had 130 athletes go to the New York Marathon and all of them have completed the marathon distance. Some have taken as little as one and a half hours through to almost 20 hours. It takes guts and determination to undertake such a demanding event. But for people with disabilities, it is like climbing Mt Everest. We have a moto we use with our team the day before the marathon to tell them we are serious about them finishing which is "Failure is not an option we have body bags we will take you home, so either finish, be taken away in an ambulance or a body bag, we are serious".

The 2007 New York Marathon will be staged on 4th November 2007. The team will depart New Zealand on 30 October 2007 and return to New Zealand on 6th November 2007.

For the 2007 Marathon we are looking to be more organised and are requesting that all potential participants complete an application form and agree to some simple guidelines.
